Mixed media artist
Ron DeGroom's mixed media art focuses on the fanciful and beautiful aspects of life. Many of his works, captured from local, recognizable scenes, evoke responses...emotions...feelings...for the viewer to enjoy. Are you looking at a painting or is it a photograph? The debate goes on!
His works are the product of a keen eye, technical expertise, and creative talent. His earlier work was based on work shot using film cameras. His newest work was shot digitally. DeGroom creates his art using numerous techniques to create the effect that compliments the mood and imagery that he is trying to achieve. Utilizing some of the latest computing techniques, he changes elements, colors, and tones of the composition, so it suits his creativity. DeGroom then creates his finished art. A high quality mixed media print is made on canvas or acid-free watercolor paper. The ink used in this art is both waterproof and light fast. In some cases he also hand paints on the canvas or paper to enhance the image.
DeGroom has received numerous awards for his work which is found in public and private collections. His work, published in books and appearing on annual report covers has also been on the covers of national publications including Boating Magazine, Rudder Magazine, and Venture Magazine. He has had both numerous group and one man gallery exhibits.
After receiving a degree in Photographic Science from Rochester Institute of Technology, DeGroom became an advertising photographer in New York City. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served stateside as an Army Photographer. During the course of his career, he has worked with Andy Warhol, and Look magazine's former director of photography and Farm Security Administration photographer, Arthur Rothestein.
